Derek is a pioneering game changer in the world of retail technology. He currently serves as Head of Guest Experience with bp’s Mobility and Convenience business. He leads the merchandising and buying, fresh food and proprietary beverage, category management, fuel, store design and development teams for bp, Thornton’s, Travel Centers of America, Amoco, ampm, and Arco stores.

Prior, he was Chief Marketing Officer for Yesway, and oversaw all merchandising, marketing, advertising, food service, private label, procurement, and brand engagement. He further cultivated the growth and stewardship of the Yesway and Allsup’s brands with a keen focus on the customer, ensuring the organizations digital, social, mobile, and loyalty initiatives were best in class.

Gaskins previously held the roles of Chief Customer Officer at Rutter’s convenience stores and dairy, SVP of Marketing and Merchandising for MACS, the nation’s largest Exxon Mobil branded wholesaler, Vice President of Marketing for the National Association of Convenience Stores, NACS, and Director of Marketing with Giant Eagle. Where he was instrumental in the brand development of GetGo, fuelperks!, Market District, and Giant Eagle Express stores; and provided marketing leadership for beer, wine, spirits, video, retail banking, and center store grocery categories.

His prior experiences include several major companies including Nabisco Foods, Goldman Sachs, and Procter & Gamble. He is an experienced brand developer, chief marketer, merchant, and innovator that has launched numerous packaged goods, CRM and retail brands and store formats.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, BBA from the University of Iowa, an MBA from the JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, and completed the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme (OSLP) at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
