Creativity Over Clicks: Reclaiming Retail Media for Brand Building

  • With retail media spend now officially surpassing the entire television ecosystem combined, marketers are facing unprecedented pressure to prove immediate ROI. But are we sleepwalking into a pure performance trap? Traditional closed-loop attribution models are highly seductive to CFOs, yet they suffer from a major structural blind spot: they optimize for immediate clicks from "decided shoppers" who were highly likely to convert anyway.  In this session, Ipsos shares landmark research from a controlled experiment of over 21,000 shopping experiences to rewrite the RMN playbook. Our research revealed three striking findings: (1) ads are 47% less likely to be remembered on retail sites vs. standard web placements, (2) high-quality creative is 21% more effective at moving out-of-market consumers toward future consideration, and (3) optimizing for ROAS alone consistently favors weaker creative, selling the channel short.
  • Lisa Zielinski, Head of Offer Strategy & Thought Leadership, Creative Excellence US, Ipsos
