Jason Shao is the Chief Operating Officer at Place Exchange. He is a recognized leader in the fields of adtech, marketing technology, large-scale systems design, and assembling high-performing tech teams.
At Place Exchange, Jason has built one of the industry’s leading supply-side platforms for Out of Home (OOH) advertising driving the programmatic transformation of the OOH category. Starting as the company’s founding Chief Technology Officer, Jason was pivotal in leading the design, engineering, and operations of Place Exchange from a concept to a market-leading platform that supports millions of screens processing billions of ad requests.
Prior to Place Exchange, Jason led technology at Intersection, where he drove the productization and deployment of large-scale IOT and digital advertising networks including LinkNYC and inLinkUK at numerous cities and transit agencies.
In earlier roles, Jason led the engineering organizations at Wyng, PlaceIQ, and PulsePoint where he built leading systems in social marketing, location-intelligence, and programmatic advertising. Jason’s work in establishing industry standards, such as OpenRTB and the OpenOOH venue taxonomy, has also had a lasting impact on the advertising technology landscape.
Earlier in his career, Jason was involved in educational technology, focused on the development of Open-Source eLearning and administrative systems for R1 research institutions.
Jason holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Rutgers University.
